Study Pal Recounts Close Call With Markoff

Saved by friend after Markoff slammed her against a wall

(Newser) – A college friend of the accused Craigslist Killer says she saw hints he was dangerous—including a frightening moment of aggression—but shrugged them off, she tells the New York Daily News. The two studied together and shared the same friends; one night, walking home from a bar, Philip Markoff “pushed me up against the wall and tried kissing me,” Morgan Houston says. “I couldn't physically get him off of me.”

If a friend hadn’t come by and helped her, “I don't know what would have happened,” she said. But she chalked the situation up to alcohol and the pair stayed friends, never speaking of it.

I think that the statement "she chalked the situation up to alcohol" is very telling. There is a definite connection between serial killers/psychopaths and alcohol abuse. When looking at classic cases like Jeffry Dahmer or John Wayne Gacey alcohol abuse is almost invariably involved with their heinous crimes. We need to do more analysis and research on exactly how and why alcohol can illicit such a Jeckyl/Hyde reaction from individuals.
