Susan Boyle tried out for television at least once before hitting Britain’s Got Talent—and a video of the performance was recently unearthed, the Sun reports. Boyle auditioned for My Kind of People in 1995, but was mocked during her rendition of "I Don't Know How to Love Him" by host Michael Barrymore—the feisty singer even kicked him when he tried to look up her skirt.

Though she was rejected, the audition ended with Barrymore kissing “never been kissed” Boyle. “Susan was a few people in front of me. When she began to sing, I knew she had a great voice but Michael Barrymore was taking the mickey out of her,” said fellow contestant Elizabeth MacLean, whose daughter took the video. “After all this time it looks like she’s finally going to make it.” (More Susan Boyle stories.)
