5 House Dems Arrested at Darfur Protest

Share

(Newser) – Five House Democrats were arrested today at a protest outside the Sudanese embassy in Washington, the AFP reports. The five are being detained, along with three protest organizers, for refusing a police order to disperse. The protesters were calling for the Sudan to allow humanitarian groups to return to Darfur.

“President Beshir has a choice,” said Rep. Jim McGovern before his arrest. He can either let humanitarian groups return to Darfur, “or he can continue to commit crimes against humanity.” Arrested along with McGovern were civil rights veteran John Lewis, Donna Edwards, Keith Ellison and Lynn Woolsey. Former State Department adviser John Prendergast was also taken into custody.

Good for them! I don't see how protesting over here can help over there, but at least someone hasn't forgotten that we should be sending a few airstrikes al-Bashir's way Reply

Do you think the Apartheid regime in South Africa is no longer around because of a sudden change of heart on the part of those bastards? No, it was due to international pressure.

Were they protesting to themselves? Get inside and write a bill if you are passionate about the Sudan! Reply

And that Bill would say: "Do what we want or we'll wage war against you", right? Sheesh, when will you republicans get it thru your heads, America does not own the rest of the world, as much as you wish we did. Why not put your party's affairs in order before tackling other countries problems - I mean, if you can
