Rower Launches Solo Pacific Trip

Posted Aug 13, 07 2:04 AM CDT in World Science & Health Technology

(Newser) – A British woman yesterday launched a historic solo journey across the Pacific rowing a 24-foot-long boat. Roz Savage, 39, has already rowed twice across the Atlantic. She left Crescent City, California, for the first of three legs of the 6,700-mile odyssey to Australia. She plans to keep a blog of her adventures and communicate via satellite phone, reports KTVU.com.

Savage hopes to reach Hawaii in two to three months. Her boat is equipped with a tiny watertight cabin and huge quantities of nuts, health food bars and freeze-dried meals. She plans to use her journey to raise awareness about marine conservation.
