Transformers star says mangled hand still causes 'extreme pain'

(Newser) – Shia LaBeouf says the hand he mangled in a car crash last July will never be the same. “Permanently fucked,” he told Playboy recently. “I’ll never be back to 100%. I can’t zipper my zipper without extreme pain.” Though he won’t be charged with drunk driving, LaBeouf says he’d had plenty to drink and shouldn’t have gotten behind the wheel. “The hand is like a tattoo that says MISTAKE.”

Now, the 22-year-old is in AA. “Am I an alcoholic? I may not be. But I have no room for alcohol in my life.” LaBeouf also talks about his childhood, from his “hippie” parents (“marijuana was always around”) to being on Disney’s Even Stevens (“Somewhere in the Disney vaults there’s video footage with my penis on it"). And finally, he talks about working with Michael Bay on Transformers. “He’ll blow things up for no reason,” LaBeouf says. “The guy’s a maniac.”

(NEWSER) - A man spotted driving erratically on a stretch of New Mexico highway notorious for drunk-driving deaths was hogtied by a witness until police arrived. The man, seen barely avoiding head-on collisions as he drove southbound in northbound lanes, was confronted by fellow motorists when he pulled over at a convenience store. DWI Among Women Jumps 29%

(NEWSER) - The career of ex-FAA chief Randy Babbitt might be the latest casualty of a drunken-driving arrest, but a new report shows that DWI has an increasingly female face. The number of women arrested on suspicion of DWI shot up 29% between 1998 and 2007—up from making up only 9% of all arrests 30 years ago to 20% by 2004. And as the Washington Post notes, female drunk drivers are older and more educated, but earn less than men who are busted. Perhaps most tellingly, however: They're likely the primary caregivers to children, leading blogger Janine D'Arcy to wonder if "mothering and drinking may be a more common problem than we realize."
