The Kindle DX offers crisper resolution than its smaller cousin, but it’s still not big enough to display a full newspaper page, and the price may hold some buyers back, Damon Darlin writes in the New York Times. “You never see the big picture—a full page—that can reward you with the story you didn’t think you wanted to read,” he says of the $489 device.

“The larger screen should have been able to offer a different experience than the one on the first two versions of the Kindle,” Darlin writes. It’s not all bad: “The photographs are clearer and more defined than those you’d see in printed page,” and enlarging graphics is a cinch. So, “the device offers a good experience, but is it a $500 experience?” (More Kindle stories.)
