(Newser) – In search of Mr. Right, M*A*S*H actor David Ogden Stiers has come out at the age of 66, PlanetOut reports. Maj. Charles Emerson Winchester's alter ego hesitated to confirm earlier rumors out of fear for his professional prospects, but he tells the Gossip Boy blog  he doesn't want "any potential partner to live a life of extreme discretion."

Stiers—who has voiced characters in several Disney films—says Hollywood may be gay friendly, but business comes first. "What they might allow in a more known actor, they prefer not having to deal with in minor players," he said. Stiers also cited pressure from others to keep his sexuality under wraps to "maintain a palatability to parents."

I could claim noble reasons as coming out in order to move gay rights forward, but I must admit it is for far more selfish reasons. Now is the time I wish to find someone. - David Ogden Stiers

C'mon, who didn't already know this man was homosexual? Why is it such a bog deal when stars, "come out"?

When people claim they can't or didn't come out because of Hollywood, sorry but that is just B.S. Everyone in Hollywood from hair stylists and make-up artists to clothes designers to half the celebrities are gay. The friggin director of THE MATRIX had a sex change operation and is now a woman for crying out loud. If everyone in Hollywood came out, what do they think the industry would do, quit making movies or television shows because there would be so actors to pick from? Give me a break. They use it as a crutch, which is usually from childhood memories of it being shameful to be gay, so on some level they are still embarrassed. They need to get over it already.
