Edwardses Candid in Oprah Interview

Elizabeth and John talk candidly about their difficult year

Share

(Newser) – Oprah Winfrey’s interview with John and Elizabeth Edwards was intensely personal, reports the Huffington Post, particularly on their marital troubles. Referencing revelations in Elizabeth’s memoir, Resilience, Winfrey asked John if the book’s treatment of his affair made him uncomfortable. “I think that’s up to her, you know?” he responded. “That’s what this whole—this book is about, and it’s what’s inside her, what she feels. It’s what it should be.”

Though she allowed candid discussion of both her husband’s affair and her battle with cancer, Elizabeth Edwards did not allow the name Rielle Hunter—John’s former mistress—to be uttered on air. She considers Hunter’s seduction of her husband a grab for attention, and doesn’t want to gratify her. “It’s not about this woman,” Elizabeth said. “It’s about this family.”

If somebody wants to stand in the light that shines on John, that's one thing. If they work at destroying my family and my home in order to get into that light, I'm really not interested in them being in the light too much.

Well, despite her obvious errors and shortcomings... she's right; it's about her family. Reply

Heck NO it is NOT about HER family. It is about an innocent baby, who is probably her husband child. If she had any humanity in her Elizabeth would have immediately insisted that the baby ( innocent ) be given a DNA test so that her scummy husband could support it ( as he does her children ) be a DAD to it and so that the child could be a part of her family ( ie. get to know her siblings ). Her children are also innocent and it is too bad that their father did this to them, but then there are many in the same boat all over the world. She is also innocent regarding the affair but guilty as to being an enabler in her husband campaign. She had a perfect excuse not to be a part of his campaign, ( health ) that the world would have understood. But her ambition for her children and her husband overcame her ethics. As far as not letting Rielle's name be mentioned ( ie. it's all the fault of this scheming woman, not my husband ) she is pathetic. I do hope her health improves and she survives her battle with cancer. Reply
