(Newser) – A jury in Kentucky convicted a former US soldier of raping a 14-year-old lraqi girl and killing her and her family, Reuters reports. Former Private 1st Class Steven Green faces the death penalty when the sentencing phase of his trial begins Monday. Green, 24, was the leader of a group of five US soldiers who took part in the 2006 assault in Baghdad.

Green shot the girl's parents and her 6-year-old sister while other soldiers raped the girl. He then raped the teenager himself before killing her. The other four men have been imprisoned, though they all could be paroled. Green's defense team said he suffered from combat stress, though he later described the assault—which triggered international scorn—as "awesome."

"Primal Brutality", Morenogar, is that your justification for the rape of a child? It's not that this soldier his mind, that is a way to justify what he did, he is an American soldier, and such, regardless of the climate of combat, (And I take it be your comments you haven't been in the sandbox and/or seen combat), you are expected to conduct yourself as such. Combat stress was his excuse, however no amount of stress would ever make any man do want this man has done, unless the intent was not there from the start. Either way, he is a mnurder and a rapist of a child, don't attribute his actions to the irony of war, that's a cop out

Fortunately this jerk off represents a very small percentage of our forces. Let the justice system take this course and if guilty, convict and sentence to life in prison without parole.

Screw sending them to a very high security prison. We should send them to Iraq. It was their people that those men killed, so they should deal with them.
