An Aussie surfer saved a kangaroo from near-certain death in shark-infested waters, reports the Times of London reports. John McCallum watched dumbfounded from the beach as the 'roo hopped straight into the ocean and was pulled 200 yards offshore by a dangerous rip. He then jumped on his board and herded the struggling animal to a sandbar and safety.

“I realized if we didn’t do something, that little roo would either drown or become lunch for some big hungry fish," McCallum said. The kangaroo collapsed with exhaustion after coming ashore, but eventually revived and bounded away.  "He looked back at me, staring at me straight in the eyes, as if to say, ‘Thanks for that, mate,'" McCallum said. "Or maybe he was saying: ‘You just wrecked my morning swim.'" (More Australia stories.)
