(Newser) – Ashton Kutcher came through on his promise to punk CNN and founder Ted Turner last night after beating the network in the race to 1 million Twitter followers, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The actor had promised to “ding-dong-ditch” Turner, and the execution went something like this: Assemble fans, a truckload of Ding Dong snack cakes, and a big bell outside Turner’s home. Ring bell. But wait, there’s more.

After the bell-ringing, Kutcher said, “The war wasn’t really with Ted Turner. He doesn’t even own CNN. The ding-dong-ditch was a bit of a distraction.” Across the way at CNN headquarters, a banner unfurled over the network’s huge neon sign with Kutcher’s Twitter handle, "aplusk," written on it. The event was filmed and broadcast on the Web, and the Ding Dongs went to the Atlanta Food Bank.

Now here's something really important we should be worrying about: More bad news. One of former Fed chairman Alan Greenspan’s favorite metrics for predicting changes in consumer spending was the sales of men’s skivvies, the Huffington Post reports. It seems that sales are projected to decline 2.3% this year, revised down from a previous forecast of 2.6% growth.
