Leno's Last Guest: Conan

Star-studded lineup for final week

Share

(Newser) – Conan O’Brien is sneaking onto the Tonight Show a little early. He and James Taylor are the guests for Jay Leno’s final episode, to air May 29, Acesss Hollywood reports. Leno’s lineup for that week includes Mel Gibson, Lyle Lovett, and Billy Crystal. “I really do like the guy,” Leno said of O’Brien, embracing his new time slot. “10 o’clock is like the new 11:30.”

Leno says the 10pm time slot has too many serious shows and needs comedy.

I enjoy the 10 o’clock dramas, but there isn’t any comedy. It’s all very serious, it’s all murder. - Jay Leno

I think Conan is an idiot, have never liked his show, and am sorry to see Jay go. I won't be watching the tonight show any longer. In fact, I think Craig Kilborn's show is horrible also. So far the only late night guy I can stomach and think he does a good job is Fallon. Jimmy Kimmel is okay in a pinch. Reply

You're right of course, Fallon and Kimmel are working hard to replace the Johnny Carson replacements. Dave has been coasting since his heart troubles, and the time change-ups have hurt both Leno, and Conan, who is off-beat and slapstick in his approach to late nite. Reply

O'brien's schtick was aimed at the late night (early morning) audience-- one with a liking for racy, off beat humor. Conan's a genius and a survivor-- I think he and his team will work long and hard to attract the Leno lovers. Reply

kansas, thanks for your opinion but when you said Failon is the only one doing a good job you lost all credibility. Conan is the funniest talk show host ever. He's the first host to break free from the boring, cookie cutter talk show format that EVERY other host adopted. I only hope they don't tone him down because of the earlier time slots. Reply
