Stewart Takes Off Gloves on Obama

Host proves even beloved president isn't safe on Daily Show

(Newser) – Barack Obama isn’t immune from Jon Stewart’s rancor. The Daily Show host took on the president yesterday for flip-flopping on government transparency and “don’t ask, don’t tell,” Gawker reports. After berating Obama for blocking the release of photos showing abuse of detainees and failing to intervene in the discharge of gay soldiers, Stewart showed the fine print of Obama’s “Yes We Can” slogan: “But that doesn’t necessarily mean we’re going to.”

Of gays in the military, Stewart said, “In this time of national crisis, when we are marshalling every tool at our disposal to fight this insidious enemy, Dan Choi is one of 54 Arabic translators dismissed due to their sexual preference. So it was OK to waterboard a guy over 80 times, but God forbid the guy who could understand what that prick was saying has a boyfriend.”

Nuts, I have more respect for you now than before. It's refreshing to see a man who can be critical of BOTH main parties.

Sorry, Rob, but have to call, "BS" on your statement. (Heh, we could go on like this for quite some time, eh?). You had wackos who touted him unconditionally - just as you have wackos associated with any political campaign - but the actual people who I knew who supported him did it much more in the vein of, "I am sick to death of the neocons - now for something different," (and that includes quite a few conventionally conservative - not /neo/con - people). When some sectors begin harping about "kool-aide", etc, their arguments become inconsequential to many who might otherwise listen. They begin with a patently false premise, thereby undermining the substance of their argument from the get-go.

Obama is just following Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals: flip flop in order to get what you want. Lie to get what you want. Ridicule the speaker in order to neutralize the message in order to get what you want. Same old politics as practiced in Chicago and with George Soros pulling the strings. How can anybody be surprised?
