Left feeling spurned by new president's policies

(Newser) – Sorry, ladies: Hell has no fury like a political base scorned, and tensions are simmering among liberals, who feel spurned by President Obama, Josh Gerstein writes for Politico. With his reversals on military tribunals and releasing photos of abused detainees, and reluctance to tackle gay rights and immigration reform, some are accusing Obama of turning into—gasp!—George W. Bush.

“Change we wanted to believe in feels like more of the same,” the ACLU and Human Rights Watch said in a joint statement. But Obama could mend fences with a decidedly liberal pick for the Supreme Court. One lobbyist blames liberals, who “exaggerated” Obama. “He’s not the person people thought he was. The left is finding that out,” he said.

Absolutely, TC. And if he isn't, he deserves the same kind of excoriating cricicism that Clinton was subjected to. And if he has truly changed his mind about an issue (like release of the torture photos) he will be able to explain his reasoning to the satisfaction of his critics, I trust. So far, he has done so, in my opinion. And I do think the time will come when he will do so with respect to his opposition to "gay marriage."

Well, a few differences off the top of my head: environmentally, there's been a huge difference, such as reversing Bush's opening up of protected land for drilling. protecting the salmon runs in the NW. They've been investing heavily in the energy infrastructure and are going to double the amount of energy from renewable in the next few years. As far as drug enforcement goes, the fed isn't conducting raids on medical marjuana users, and they've shifted it from essentially a federal issue to a state level issue. In terms of foriegn policy there's been a huge difference, with Obama actually trying to reach out to other countries instead of bullying them and antagonizing them.

Look, I voted for Obama. I would have voted for Bozo the Clown so long as he wasent a Republican. Im a bleeding heart liberal, and while I think Obama has done some things right, this article is right- he lied to us. He promised the troops would come home, he lied. His stance on gay marriage is disgusting cowardly, and he sat on the fence regarding abortion. I know hes trying to creat a consensus and that is fine good, but stop throwing the people that hired you to the WOLVES. Bring the troops home, you campaigned on it, and leaving a force there is not bringing them home, yes yes every president that ended a war has done that, but thats not what you said. Hes sacraficed us to appease these conservative hate mongers, and he continues to do so.
