Vogue Editor Tells Oprah: Lose 20 Lbs!

Share

(Newser) Vogue's editor-in-chief gave Oprah Winfrey some advice before she graced the mag's cover in 1998: Lose some weight, babe. Like 20 pounds. "It was a very gentle suggestion," said Anna Wintour in an unaired portion of her 60 Minutes segment last night, Us reports. "I said simply that you might feel more comfortable. She was a trouper!"

Oprah "totally welcomed the idea" and hit the diet trail before the shoot, Wintour said. "And it was one of our most successful covers ever." In her 60 Minutes interview, Wintour also defended the use of Photoshop on Vogue cover models and said the mag was aware of obesity. "We need to spend money, time and education on teaching people to eat," she said.

I'd just been on a trip to Minnesota, where I can only kindly describe most of the people I saw as little houses. There's such an epidemic of obesity in the US, and for some reason, everybody focuses on anorexia. - Anna Wintour, Vogue editor-in-chief

Eighty-five per cent of black American women over forty are over weight. And I'm blaming that black piggy billionaire Oprah for setting the example. Reply

No, I think that can be blamed on fluff and lard alone - oh yeah and fried chicken. Reply

Anna Wintour's brain has shrunk from lack of nourishment. She can't understand why everyone focuses on anorexia instead of obesity... poor poor Anna, she just can't understand. Maybe it's because everyone is growing up with ZERO self-esteem because they don't look like your stupid models, and they don't understand that it's not NATURAL to look like that, because you sure as hell don't bother pointing that out. And on what planet do you have to live to be blind to the fact that seeing a roomful of anorexics is the exact same amount of sickening as seeing a roomful of obese Anna? Reply

Consider the source...after seeing her on 60 minutes she is the least attractive person to represent style. She could use a makeup job and a different hairdo. She wouldn't know style if it bit her in the ass. Editor of Vogue or not. She is an arrogant bitch and probably addicted to diet pills. Reply

If I were Oprah, and I'm glad I'm not, I would buy Vogue and fire Anna Wintour. Not just due to this comment but for the attitude she holds about thin being beautiful. No wonder teen-age girls have such low self-esteem. With people like Ms. Wintour setting the standards of beauty, how can they not? Reply
