Kimmel Rips ABC to Shreds

Slams own network at advertiser presentation

Share

(Newser) – Jimmy Kimmel took the stage yesterday at a network presentation for advertisers, and promptly bit the hands that feed him—ripping into ABC, its advertisers, and even Jay Leno, writes Dave Itzkoff in the New York Times reports. “All of ABC’s late-night comedy talent is assembled here on one stage,” he said after stepping on. Then: “Let's get real here. Let’s get Dr. Phil-real here. These new fall shows? We’re going to cancel about 90% of them. Maybe more.”

He told advertisers they needed “therapy” for coming back to ABC every year. “We completely lie to you, and then you pass those lies onto your clients.” NBC’s decision to show Leno earlier is “giving Jay’s viewers exactly what they want. An early-bird special.” Finally, he told the audience, “the important thing to remember is: who cares, it’s not your money.”

If Jimmy Kimmel still has a job at ABC on Wednesday, he is either a very lucky or very deft comedian, or he has great blackmail photos of the network executives. - Dave Itzkoff, New York Times

What a jerk! If he keeps that job, it won't be for much longer. He shouldn't have that job anyway, I don't find him that funny. And also, ABC has two of the more famous reality shows- Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor. It also has Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy which are two popular shows. So if ABC cancels shows, it's not hurting them that much. Reply

Yes it does sound like he wants out... the schedule is grueling and he may have some lighter offers he really wants to try. Reply

The last time I saw Jimmy, he was doing a 2 minute segment on Fox's Sunday Football pre game show. Then they replaced him with a funny guy. Reply
