(Newser) – So you're not ready to give up your car for a bicycle to help the Earth. LiveScience suggests 10 baby steps to going green that won't even cramp your style.

  1. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs.
  2. Purchase Energy Star-rated appliances, electronics, and lighting.
  3. Instead of plastic bags, shop with a reusable tote bag.

  1. Nix paper catalogs and remove yourself from direct-mailing lists.
  2. Buy produce locally.
  3. Reduce, reuse and recycle.
  4. Choose clean, renewable energy.
  5. Plug electronics into a powerstrip and turn it off when not in use.
  6. Use natural, non-toxic cleaning and pest-control products.
  7. Buy used furniture built to last.
