The Wayans brothers' latest laffer parodies dance movies and musicals, with a bit of Twilight for good measure. If you’re not seeking high culture, Dance Flick is a barrel of laughs:
- Stephen Holden of the New York Times calls it an “explosively funny spoof.” Though it “relies on the density of jokes that push the acceptable bounds of taste to keep the comedy aloft,” the “belly laughs leave you feeling liberated and not guilty.”
- But “there's an art to making a good spoof, but good luck finding it in Dance Flick," writes Joe Neumaier of the Daily News, "not only because the movie goes for easy toilet humor, but because it often relies on it to stay afloat.”
- After junk parodies like Date Movie—which the Wayanses had nothing to do with—“this send-up, created in large part by new-generation family members, possesses a more nimble comic footing,” writes Glenn Whipp in the Chicago Tribune.
