(Newser) – Joe Biden's son will deploy to Iraq with his National Guard brigade in 2008. Capt. Beau Biden, who is the attorney general of Delaware, will not get any special treatment because of his senator (and presidential hopeful) dad, said a spokesman for the Guard. "He's a deployable asset just like any other soldier in that unit," he tells the AP.

Sen. Biden has been a outspoken critic of the Bush administration's conduct of the war in Iraq, and has proposed partitioning of the country into semi-autonomous Sunni, Shiite and Kurd regions. The candidate says he doesn't want his son to go, but "I don't want my grandson or my granddaughters going back in 15 years, and so how we leave makes a big difference," he says.
