Minn. Cancer Fugitive, Mother Return Home

Authorities take Hauser, 13, for checkup after week on the lam

(Newser) – Thirteen-year-old Daniel Hauser and his mother Colleen have returned to their home state of Minnesota after fleeing court-ordered chemotherapy, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Authorities have taken Daniel Hauser for a medical checkup; they wouldn’t say whether the return was the result of an arrest, deferring questions to a press conference scheduled for later today.

The Hausers are believed to have fled the state—perhaps to Mexico—to pursue natural remedies for the cancerous tumor in Daniel’s chest. Colleen Hauser is wanted on charges of criminal negligence, according to an FBI affidavit.

Another shining example of how religion stagnates enlightened thought. Let's see, if we go the chemo and radiation route, there is a 90% chance of being cured. If we got he religious route, it drops to 5%. Idiotic parent. Reply

Who are you to say how they raise their kids? Don't you have you're own family to worry about? I'm not saying she is right, but she is entitled to be wrong and raise her kid under those beliefs. Was it stupid for Bob Marley opt not to chop his toe off for religious reasons, which would have saved his life? To some yes, but to him and his maker, no. Let us just leave others alone to make their own mistakes. There are over 6 billion people on the planet. If a few want to voluntarily reduce human population, then that is their choice.

I've read a few stories about this family and haven't found any place that mentions their religious beliefs. If Robert knows more about this, I'd like to know--but, if not, I'm really tired of people blaming religion. Actually, even if these parents had religious beliefs about this treatment, I'm tired of those who blame ALL religious people for their stupiditiy. The mother prefers natural treatemtn because cheo makes the son sick--but not treating him with chemo is going to make him much sicker. Reply

You might want to read the article Jane. "Daniel underwent one round of chemotherapy in February, but stopped after that single treatment, citing religious beliefs. The family opted instead for natural healing practices."

Robert, you're right. I missed that BUT the fact that these people are stupid doesn't make everyone who's religious stupid--in fact, I said that in my first email. Religion must have hurt you deeply for you to hate anyone who's religious so very much.
