Michael Vick (and His Jersey) Go to the Dogs

Posted Aug 18, 07 4:39 PM CDT in Sports Arts & Living US

(Newser) – Deluged with jerseys of fleet-footed number 7, a humane society is putting them all to good use – in wiping up dog doo and keeping canines comfy, nestling their heads as they doze in their cages. The Atlanta Humane Society says it didn’t know what to do with the donated Michael Vick jerseys at first, until they decided to use the high-priced grid-iron fabric “to make dogs more comfortable.”

The Society is also getting plenty of emails about Vick, who is said to be hammering out a plea deal today after two co-defendants implicated him on illegal dogfighting charges. But number 7 gets no special treatment back in Atlanta’s kennels: “We’re not showing any favoritism to these jerseys, they go into our general rotation of towels,” says a Society spokesperson.
