Sotomayor's 'Word Choice Was Poor': Gibbs

Share

(Newser) – Robert Gibbs said today Sonia Sotomayor regrets the way she phrased 2001 comments that have some Republicans calling the Supreme Court nominee a racist, the Hill reports. “I think she'd say that her word choice was poor,” the White House press secretary said. He suggested that Sotomayor was not trying to say Latina women make better judges than white men, but that “your experiences impact your understanding.”

Gibbs also took time to address critics of Sotomayor, including Rush Limbaugh, who has compared the judge to KKK member David Duke. “I don't think you have to be the nominee to find what was said today offensive,” Gibbs said, adding that it’s “hard to completely quantify the kind of outrage I think anybody would feel.”

But I guess it's not racist to play "Barack the Magic Negro" on your syndicated radio show. Another republican hypocrite. Reply

Im no republican, but I am white. Any yeah, what she said was racist, and if a white male had said that, but say another minority, do you really think he would be allowed to be a Justice? I think not. Reply

I don't necessarily dispute that but the indignant republicans on this issue are filled with racism themselves, which is quite understandable since it appears that hypocrisy is encoded in their DNA.

Why is it when the other side disagrees and its minority involved its racist. Seems to me that just a ploy to divert from the real issue of judicial temperament.

You may have answered your own question ClearSight. The statement being discussed is only part of a lengthier and more detailed statement. And, when correctly understood, is not racist at all.
