Obama Misses His Old Life

Brian Williams gets backstage look at White House

(Newser) – President Obama misses the “rhythm” of the days before he entered the White House, the New York Post reports. Looking back, he told NBC of the old days: “It’s Saturday morning. I’m gonna run some errands, I'm gonna do some things that'll make my wife happy,” he said. “I'm gonna take my kids to a museum and then I'm gonna—on the spur of the moment—take them to have some ice cream.”

The chat with Brian Williams is part of some 150 hours of footage that went into two hour-long NBC specials, called  A Day in the Life: Inside the Obama White House, on last night and tonight. The backstage footage also shows Obama with his dog (“he has a great temperament”) and catching a basketball in the Oval Office (“you weren’t supposed to film that.”)

You know, I'm an Obama backer, I think he's doing a great job. Quite frankly, I'm more than a little uncomfortable with the deluge of media coverage he's received, most of it fawning adoration a la Bush immediately post-9/11. I think it's time the major news outlets stopped their celebrations and started taking a FAIR look at the presidency thus far. The higher they raise him, after all, the harder he'll fall.

I miss his old life, too.
