Gays Rankle at Obama's Unkept Promises

Share

(Newser) – Gay-rights supporters in and outside of Washington are getting fed up with President Obama’s perceived inaction on their core issues, Politico reports. Obama has been unwilling to back gay marriage, and has yet to fulfill his campaign promise of repealing the Defense of Marriage Act, which bars federal recognition of the same. “Obama is out of step with his party,” one activist said. “He’s out of step with the next generation.”

“The president remains fully committed to advancing LGBT rights,” an Obama aide said, noting recent progress in hate crime legislation. “While we recognize that some in the community are anxious, the president’s commitment has not wavered.” DC's gay leaders have stayed relatively quiet, but it’s only because they cherish a White House relationship, Politico adds. In actuality, the “professional gay crowd feels a sense of impending betrayal,” says an insider.

All the [protesters] are Obama people who love and support our president. But he didn’t stand up for us, and until he does we’re going to love him enough to be tough on him. - Mike Bonin, gay activist and former Obama campaign staffer

I can understand the anguish as well as the anger over this and many other human issues which once more seem to be pushed asides due to religious pressure applied within politics. On that note I also want to post a video to the Religious Right in regards to the traditional marriage according to the "worlds greatest Christian" and the traditional marriage" so as not to anger the Right once more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFkeKKszXTw Reply

There are plenty of gay communities who have been speaking out against Fraudbama for a long time. After all...he campaigned with known homophobes. The homophobe he got to give the invocation at his inauguration was just another one in a long line of other Brand Zero tapped. All the dupes are finally realizing they've been under the bus the entire time.

Obama could end Don't Ask Don't Tell with a simple penstroke on an exuctive order. I don't blame gays for being pissed. He certainly has no trouble jumping into big issues but on this one he is strangely silent. I certainly don't think it's because of religious groups; they aren't exactly his biggest supporters to begin with, how worried could he be about losing their support? I think this is one of those issues where a lot more behind the scenes information is going to come out down the line. Reply
