15 More Bodies Found at Crash Site

Searches also find large amount of aircraft wreckage

(Newser) – Searchers have recovered 15 more bodies from the Air France 447 crash site in the Atlantic, bringing the total to 17. Brazil's military also collected large amounts of the plane's "structural components," officials tell Reuters. "Hundreds of items are being found and being stored until we know where they should go," said a spokesman. Investigators speculate that the pilots may have set the plane at a dangerously slow speed due to faulty speed sensors.

The more bodies and pieces they find the more of a chance they have of finding what might have happened in case they don't find the black boxes. Reply

FRANCE 24: AFP - A total of 16 bodies, and not 17 as previously announced, were recovered over the weekend from the Atlantic site where an Air France jet came down on June 1, Brazilian military officials said Monday. Their correction came after a French navy vessel handed over seven bodies to the crew of a Brazilian frigate, instead of eight as had been expected, Brazilian navy spokesman Captain Guicemar Tabosa told reporters. That Brazilian frigate, which already had nine recovered bodies on board, was to arrive in the Brazilian archipelago of Fernando de Noronha early Tuesday, he said. From there, the bodies were to be flown to the mainland. A Brazilian air force spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Henry Munhoz, said that because of the mistake over the number of bodies recovered so far, "from now on we will only inform the press of bodies recovered by Brazilian crews." He did not explain why there had been an initial discrepancy in the numbers. But Munhoz added that the genders of the victims would no longer be given after revealing on Sunday it that was impossible to immediately determine for some of the remains found... Reply
