16-Year-Old Quits School for Pros

Aims to get GED, qualifying him for 2010 draft

(Newser) – A 16-year-old baseball player is skipping his last 2 years of high school to head to college—and hopefully a big-league contract, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. Bryce Harper’s father acknowledges that “there are going to be critics” of the move, but says “Bryce is always looking for his next challenge. He's going to pursue his education, too.”

His son “initiated” the decision to get a GED, Ron Harper told the Review-Journal. Finishing high school qualifies him for the 2010 draft, the San Jose Mercury News notes. While the .625 hitter’s move is “controversial,” it “makes sense,” writes John Ryan. Top high-schoolers are already “professionals in every sense but the paycheck,” and the decision to head for the majors “is honest.”

Observer, you don't know a thing about sports and you should shut to hell up, you jealous moron! This kid is smart and his parents are even smarter than he is. He's not the only one out there hundreds of kids are becoming professionals at 15 and 16 having huge bank accounts and still receiving great diplomas. Have you seen Michelle Quan and Sarah Hughes just received their diplomas and sitting on huge bank accounts? Now beat that! What does your kid have? 4 more years of college and come out and work for peanuts and spend years to buy a home, pay for a car and end up in the social security system? That's you, not us smart parents we know what's good for our talented children and we are doing the best for them. But you won't know that because you are more or less from an unathletic family somewhere.!! I pity yu!! But for the parents of this amazing kid, I applaud yu and wish there were more parents like yu, I know I am, my 16 year old just turned professional tennis and is hoping to make it to the Grand Slams in a year or two! So good luck to your warrior parents out their and to you mouthy jealousers take that!!!

Observer = Jealous Moron...making BS predictions about a person you don't know a thing about. Gotta love your consistent sense of "optimism" in your newser postings.
