DNA Shows Mich. Man Is Not Long-Missing NY Boy

Share

(AP) – The FBI says DNA testing confirms that a 54-year-old Michigan man is not a toddler kidnapped in Long Island in 1955. John Barnes is not Stephen Damman, who disappeared at age 2 from outside an East Meadow bakery while his mother shopped. Barnes says he has long suspected the couple who raised him are not his biological parents, and the FBI took his DNA sample to check it out.

Barnes says he began investigating his origins years ago and found photos on the Internet that led him to believe he could be Stephen. He says he was born the same year the boy disappeared but that he only saw his birth certificate once. Barnes' father has called the speculation "foolishness."

Really gotta feel horrible for the people who got their hopes up thinking they'd found their boy. Reply

I have to wonder why this man thinks his parents are not his biological parents? If they aren't then why don't they admit and explain, after all they are all adults now. And if they are, why is this man so insistent that they aren't? Did something happen when he was a child? It just seems so curious that he basically accused the couple who raised him of being kidnappers. Reply

You don't just wake up one day and begin to doubt your paternity/maternity.Barnes must have good reasons for his doubts.let the supposed parent come and tell the world what had happened. It a civilised world,no one will crucify them afterall they ve' done a good job raising Barnes. Reply
