Bonds Ball Hits Internet Auction Block

(Newser) – New home run king Barry Bonds has driven No. 756 all the way to the Internet auction block. Mets fan Matt Murphy, who caught the record-busting ball, will sell it in an online auction running from Tuesday through Sept. 15, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The ball could fetch at least $500,000, according to organizer SCP Auctions.

Murphy, 21, said he is selling the ball because of concerns he might have to pay hefty taxes simply for owning it. “I’m upset," he said. "I wanted to keep it.” SCP, which also sold home run balls Nos. 700 and 715, will put it on the block simultaneously with No. 755, the ball that tied Hank Aaron's record.
