Markoff Indicted for Craigslist Murder

There's ample evidence: prosecutor

(Newser) – Accused Craigslist killer Philip Markoff has been formally charged with murdering 26-year-old Julissa Brisman, the Boston Globe reports. The former med student is being arraigned today on seven charges, including first-degree murder, in connection with Brisman’s death and another attack on a prostitute. Both women advertised their services on Craigslist, where Markoff, 23, found them. Prosecutors say fingerprints and video footage link Markoff to the crimes.

(NEWSER) - An Afghan militiaman strangled his wife for giving birth to a third daughter instead of a son, according to law enforcement authorities. The 28-year-old victim was killed in her home in the northern province of Kunduz by her husband and his mother just three months after the woman had the baby, reports the Guardian . The victim's mother-in-law has been arrested, but the husband has fled. It's uncertain who will care for the couple's daughters. Two months ago, attackers in the same province poured acid over parents and three children after the parents refused to hand over their young daughter in marriage. (NEWSER) - A murderer awaiting execution in North Carolina wrote a letter to his hometown newspaper ridiculing the justice system and describing his life in prison as one of "leisure." 50-year-old Danny Robbie Hembree Jr. is on death row for killing teenager Heather Catterton in 2009, reports ABC News . Hembree sent the letter to the Gaston Gazette ; in it he asks, "Is the public aware that I am a gentleman of leisure, watching color TV in the A.C., reading, taking naps at will, eating three well balanced hot meals a day?" (NEWSER) - Homeless Californians were packing shelters last night after discovering they're being stalked by a serial killer. The stabbing deaths of three homeless men in 10 days have been linked to a single "serious, dangerous serial killer operating in Orange County," police warn. A man wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt was seen on a video surveillance tape approaching a homeless man shortly before the victim's murder. (NEWSER) - Should Jerome Isaac want to plead not guilty in the murder of Delores Gillespie, who was burned alive in the elevator of her Brooklyn apartment building on Saturday, a wrench: On top of the fact that the crime was caught on video, his face is also horribly burned. The New York Post reports on Isaac's appearance in court yesterday, in which prosecutor Kenneth Taub noted that, "The evidence of this particularly heinous and brutal murder is beyond question.
