GLAAD to Perez: Apologize for Calling Will.i.am Gay Slur

(Newser) – The manager of the Black Eyed Peas punched Perez Hilton after the gossip blogger called Will.i.am a faggot during a heated argument, reports the Los Angeles Times. Now the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is demanding that Hilton apologize for using the gay slur. "I made the split-second decision that I was gonna say what I thought was the worst possible thing— which was a handful of assorted F-bombs," blogged Hilton, who's gay. But GLAAD isn't accepting the explanation.

"These are vulgar anti-gay slurs that feed a climate of hatred and intolerance toward our community," said a spokesman. "For someone in our own community to use it to attack another person is incredibly dangerous." Police have charged Black Eyed Peas manager Liborio Molina with assault after the confrontation with Hilton at the MuchMusic Video Awards Sunday in Toronto.

It legitimizes use of a slur that is often linked to violence against our community. And it sends a message that it is OK to attempt to dehumanize people by exploiting anti-gay attitudes. - GLAAD spokesman Rashad Robinson

I'll take that bet. There are plenty of gay men & women who consider that remark completely uncalled for, inappropriate and a setback for us. Hell, I consider it a setback, if for no other reason, simply because so many str8 people out there will totally make ASSumptions like you just did.

That is not entirely true. Miss CA herself said she had received a lot of support from the gay community over that. Many of us considered it an inappropriate especially because it came from Perez. Since you are evidently not gay, I don't see any reason why you should speak for the gay community and state what WE thought of that situation. It pissed me off that he even asked it and I TOTALLY support Miss CA's answer. Perez is a piece of work, no doubt, and I HATE that he is currently a "face" for my community. He is famous for nothing, as far as I am concerned.

Did you read the article? GLAAD, a BIG OL' GAY organization, is demanding Perez apologize and staunchly condemns the comment. At least two homosexuals have posted their disgust here, one being me. What more do you want?
