Says prez is using 'carpet bombing' to defeat enemies

(Newser) – The leader of a prominent Maryland Republican group is comparing President Obama to Adolf Hitler, apparently with a straight face, in a letter on its website, ThinkProgress reports. “Obama and Hitler have a great deal in common in my view,” writes the president of Republican Women of Anne Arundel County. “Obama and Hitler use the ‘blitzkrieg’ method to overwhelm their enemies. FAST, CARPET BOMBING intent on destruction.”

“Hitler’s blitzkrieg bombing destroyed many European cities—quickly and effectively. Obama is systematically destroying the American economy and with it AMERICA. First the banking/investment industry, next private enterprise (GM and Chrysler) and now HEALTH CARE,” the letter said. “We too CAN fight back. Contact everyone you know. Start a blitzkrieg of our own.”

Not Republicans. Don't lump me in there. They say "Maryland Republican" group, however, that could be a group of 4, of 7, you don't know. The media is quick to paint 1 nutjob conservative voice to speak for the party, but if it was 1 nutjob liberal voice they single them out as being on an island by themselves, not speaking for the party. Besides, there are only about 17 Republicans in all of Maryland.

$10 trillion check? I don't think the debt was at 1 trillion when Bush left. Yet its over that now with Obama? I don't understand your numbers. Please explain with real facts and numbers. BTW, the economic fiasco we are facing has its roots in the Clinton years, with the administration pushing private banks into the sub-prime mortgage business because "everybody has the right to own a home", and the banking industry deregulation signed into law in 1999 by Clinton...not Bush. Please, when making statements, make them based in actual historical and economic facts. While you may not like Bush, the problems run far deeper and longer than his administration and cannot be solved with throwing tax dollars at it, just like FDR could not fix the depression the same way....economic situation did not stabilize for him until the war. That is a fact, not an opinion.

You just compared the Republican Party to Hitler (as if a single person could really and truly represent a group as anything more than a spokesperson), and George Bush to the KKK. Do you not see the irony here? George Bush fucked up pretty badly in my opinion, what he did (and what Obama is doing for that matter, if you swing that way) is nothing compared to the sheer destruction that followed in Hitler's wake. I started coming here for something to do when I have a moment at work....I love reading about and discussing politics...its something that I have done in my family since I was 6 years old and the Carter v Ford election season was winding down. But you have to admit that this site is a rag...I mean, half my posts are longer and have quadruple the factual information than the actual "articles". (I know, its supposed to be snipets for people to get the quick story without reading a longer article....what is wrong with reading a longer article? I know Scottie....I just haven't bothered looking for somewhere else. I like it a little...what bothers me is what I find in many sites, which is too many people who are entrenched in their opinions, but when you press them on why they believe something, or you present them with factual data which weakens their position, they either ignore you or insult you. The only time I have resorted to that was earlier today when some jerk called me a skinhead or neonazi for my not liking Obama and his politics (sorry, that is sensitive to me because my grandmother was a jew and she and her family lost everything, and many of them their lives, when they had to flee Austria in the 30s due to the rise of Hitler). So I can look for another site, but I find that there are Doctor Zaius' everywhere....wish we could ship them all back to the Planet of the Apes. Reply

I really only brought that up to explain why I got really ticked at some guy above who likened me to a nazi because I don't like Obama's policies. I actually defended Obama with regards to the idiot who compared him to Hitler, as that is assinine. As for the challenge here, most people don't want a discussion, they want you whole-heartedly agreeing with you, no questions asked. But discussions and debates and questions are what educate us all. You have to be able to change your opinion based on new information. But the majority of the people here shut down and insult you if you provide information that differs from their view. I am sure most people, if they read my posts, will believe I have drunk the GoP KoolAid. I can assure you my opinion differs from theirs on many things, we just haven't had any discussions on those topics yet, as they really are not topics I care about enough to vote on. But that is another discussion for another day (or article).

Oh, and Scottie, that is not to say everybody is not entitled to their own opinions....they are of course. But if you are going to post something, its usually a more interesting discussion/debate when its grounded in something more stable than the politicized nonsense that Gore provides you (for example with regards to Global Warming) or some headline you saw on ihaterepublicans.com. And when guys throw absolute falsehoods out there it defeats the purpose of the whole idea of discussions because you have some people out there that will believe something only because it agrees with what they believe and won't ever bother to research it. I love researching stuff and reading scienctific articles and journals and politics, so if I throw a statement out there as if it were fact, I can pretty much guarantee you I have either read supporting data or been to a lecture of some expert in the field or something along those lines. Anyway, I am rambling now, and I have to take off for the day. Reply

It's up to each person to form her own opinion. Ideally, that opinion should be based on fact. Often, the facts are ambiguous or inconclusive, and that's where politics thrives. Research and analysis should inform politics, but at some point, we all make our opinions based on what will or won't get us banished from the tribe.

Obama is more like Vladimir Lenin in his economic outlook. Adolf Hitler was pro-military, anti-union, and pro-business and he knew what he was doing unlike Obama. Adolf's basic philosophy is embodied in the following paragraph: "There is a path to freedom. Its milestones are: OBEDIENCE, HONESTY, CLEANLINESS, SOBRIETY, HARD WORK, DISCIPLINE, SACRIFICE, TRUTHFULNESS, LOVE OF THY FATHERLAND. Hitler was everything that Obama is not. Reply

2-bits, I saw the read less, know more thing after I had been here for a few days. That is kind of disturbing, but I think its a symptom of what is wrong in our society. Everybody wants a shortcut. There is no shortcut to learning more. I am a big believer in getting more information than I need. Being an engineer I guess has trained me to want all the details. When you designing a pier over the water and omit details from the data, you kill people. Now, looking at politics, why would you want to omit details about a candidate when deciding on who to vote for? When discussing why the economy is collapsing, why omit details on how and why the economy is collapsing. I mean, we are formulating policy on how to fix it based upon the media telling us its all 1 administration's fault and the greed of Wall Street and Corporate America. We want to hammer Corporate America now. Corporate America is what has built America and will keep us employed. They are what makes the money that the government takes from us to pay for itself. But we want snapshots, not full length documentaries. We have kids voting for the first time who couldn't name their own representative in Congress, but they are voting for a guy because he's not old or he's not Bush or because some rock star told them to at a concert. Details are what we need to make informed decisions. Its no wonder we have people like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in positions of power. Reply

I see what you mean, but I guess that depends on how you use Newser. If you want, Newser can be very informative, providing links to stories you want to explore in depth (as well as links to summaries on related stories), while allowing you to get a quick summary on issues that aren't as important to you. Used this way, I think the net effect would be that people really did know more because people are more apt to read two paragraphs than two pages. The problem, as you mentioned, lies in human nature. My guess is that most people NEVER read the source article, and that worries me. It both devalues the content, both intellectually and financially (if you're the NYT or WSJ).
