Sanford Mistress Dodges Press

Chapur worked as journalist in US covering 9/11 attacks

(Newser) – Maria Belen Chapur has been successfully avoiding the horde of journalists camped outside her Buenos Aires apartment for the last few days, McClatchy reports. Chapur—who has been identified by the Argentine media as Mark Sanford's mistress—worked as a journalist and translator for TV station Canal America and went to the US to cover the 9/11 attacks, according to a producer.

"Because she's from Argentina, the scandal has become one of our own," said one of the journalists outside her building, who had given seven live reports from the scene before noon despite Chapur remaining elusive. The US Embassy confirmed that Sanford visited Argentina on a trade mission around a year ago, around the time the South Carolina governor says the affair began.

Leave the other lady alone, please. Anything else is just yellow journalism. Reply

Why should they leave her alone? She was having an affair with a married gov. for over a year. She is just as much to blame as he is. Both were wrong and both should expect to have to deal with the results of their flings. Reply

oldgoat, she is just as much to blame? She could be single or separated or free, so she was doing nothing immoral. And she could have been told Sanford was someone other than who he was, or that his wife and he were separated, or that Mark had decided for himself that he was free and it was nothing for Ms. Chapur to concern herself with. .............. We know clearly why Sanford is blameworthy; we do not know the same thing for Ms. Chapur. .............. So, leave her alone. She just screwed a lonely guy. This is something we guys should actually be protecting women from suffering the backlashes of. The more we allow women to be denigrated for loving the wrong man, the less free they will be with any of us.

Shonangregson, While I find the vast majority of your posts thoughtful and agreeable, this one escapes me completely; it hinges of the prospect of anarchy. You know how infidelity is viewed and dealt with in Japan. Belen Chapur knew what she was going into from the get go and carries as much guilt as her coconspirator in infidelity. This coming from a person who's been on the receiving end of such an experience. I lost my family due to my ex-wife's indiscretions with another man. The experienced, pain and anguish Jenny Sanford is experiencing is indescribable. I would gather from your vantage, you've been able to avoid such devastating heartbreak, which I might add, never really ends - Especially when children are involved. Secondly, in that sound bite we were just exposed to, it appears her journalistic skills are less than optimal; she lacks genuine presence, confidence with which are essential characteristics in TV journalism. Her journalistic skills (on the fly) are far from optimal; she's struggling to pull together and formulate ideas into a consensus, while her syntax is somewhat inconsistent. She appears little more than a show piece; a TV tramp. She and Sanford both destroyed a family together. To say otherwise is irresponsible, disingenuoun. I would terminate her on the grounds of lack of character and moral fortitude. In other words, I wouldn't believe a word that came out of her mouth.
