Vick's Pit Bulls Could Face Euthanasia

Posted Aug 23, 07 10:28 AM CDT in US    Editor's Choice

(Newser) – The 53 pit bulls seized from Michael Vick's property must be claimed today—otherwise they could be euthanized. A spokeswoman for PETA claims rehabilitation isn't an option for ex-fighting dogs. "It's widely accepted that euthanasia is the most humane thing for them," she said.

It's unlikely that anyone will come forward to claim the dogs, whom federal prosecutors said were part of Vick's dogfighting ring in eastern Virginia. But authorities haven't released the location of the animals, citing concerns over theft. "They are a hot commodity in the world of dogfighting," says the PETA spokeswoman.
