Dodgers Sign David Wells

Posted Aug 24, 07 3:30 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – The Los Angeles Dodgers became the ninth team to sign David Wells yesterday, one week after the San Diego Padres placed him on release waivers. Wells, 44, posted a 14.33 ERA in his last three starts , dropping to 5-8 with a 5.54 ERA this season. The one-time Bronx hero is slated to start Sunday against the Mets in New York.

Though the Dodgers haven't released details of his contract, Wells' salary will likely be comparable to what he was making in San Diego. In addition to his pro-rated income, LA has agreed to pay Wells an incentive for each game he starts—of just over $175,000—roughly equivalent to his former arrangement with the Padres.
