Mickelson's Mom Has Breast Cancer, Too

(Newser) – Phil Mickelson's mother has breast cancer and will undergo surgery this week at the same hospital that's treating her daughter-in-law for the disease. Amy Mickelson, the star golfer's wife, was diagnosed in May. Phil Mickelson's sister, Tina, tells the San Diego Union-Tribune she made the diagnosis public in hopes that mom Mary Mickelson would receive the same kind of support Amy Mickelson has experienced.

"she made the diagnosis public in hopes that her mom would receive the same kind of support Amy Mickelson has experienced" Why does that sound odd to me? You went public because you saw how much attention your daughter in law was getting so you wanted the same? So if your daughter in law didn't have cancer or had not gone public, you wouldn't have said anything? I don't know, just seems strange.
