(Newser) – Michael Jackson “was hoping that Michael Jackson could live forever,” his chauffeur tells the Mirror. “Michael said he wanted a mini-version of himself cloned to carry on his legacy.” The singer became obsessed with the idea after learning about a religious sect that believes cloning is the key to eternal life. Paul McCartney has some words—albeit not too harsh—for Jackson’s allegedly abusive father, reports the Sun. “I don’t want to judge but I do think that contributed to some of the problems Michael might have had," he says.

Also from the Sun: Jackson’s chef saw the singer’s doctor carrying “waist-high, heavy-duty” oxygen tanks outside the house, he says, adding weight to the theory the doctor was giving Jackson Propofol, the dangerous anesthetic that is usually administered with oxygen.
Brooke Shields recalls her childhood friendship with Michael Jackson in an interview with Rolling Stone obtained by the AP. As Jackson grew up, “the more asexual he became to me,” she says. When it came to sex, “He was like a little kid who talked about the bases—what first base was, what second base was.”

Probe Launched Into Whitney's Prescriptions, Doctors

Medical records will be subpoenaed

(NEWSER) - The investigation into Whitney Houston's death is now turning to her doctors and pharmacies. Investigators are expected in the next few days to serve subpoenas on the singer's physicians and the pharmacies where Houston obtained multiple prescription drugs, reports the Los Angeles Times . Officials aim to determine whether the drugs were dispensed properly, and if the singer was receiving too many prescriptions, a source tells the newspaper. Investigators will likely pore over a state-created database of controlled substances prescribed in California. Tracking celebrity prescription drug use can be complicated because they may regularly use drugs prescribed to aides, according to law enforcement authorities. More»

(NEWSER) - We all know the Oprah Winfrey Network is struggling with ratings —but apparently the situation is so bad that Winfrey herself felt the need to tweet a request for viewers on Sunday night, as the Grammys were airing. Whitney's 'Comeback Movie' May Be Released Early

'Sparkle' could hit theaters as early as Memorial Day

(NEWSER) - Whitney Houston was supposed to make a big-screen comeback in Sparkle, a remake of a 1976 movie loosely based on The Supremes' story. Houston contributed two songs and stars as the mother of three daughters who form a music group, and the New York Post notes that the film is still on track for its original August release date—or perhaps as early as Memorial Day. Pushing the film up "absolutely isn't being done to make money," an apparently straight-faced source tells Radar . "The reasoning is that Whitney's fans will want to see her in this movie, in which she gives a remarkable performance." In other sad movie news, the president of Fox 2000 Pictures tells Vulture that the planned sequel to Waiting to Exhale will move forward without Houston. Who could take Houston's place?
