Berlusconi's Skeevy Love Life Vs. the G8

Italians worry sex scandals will tarnish country's image

(Newser) – Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is playing host to world leaders at the G8 meeting but many Italians fear his penchant for hosting teenage girls and escorts at his villa will overshadow and hurt the summit, the Los Angeles Times reports. Sex scandals have dogged the PM for months, trying the patience of normally tolerant Italians who worry that his antics are beginning to damage the country's image.

"The limit of decency has been reached," a popular Catholic magazine wrote recently in an unusually harsh criticism of Berlusconi. "In other nations, if politicians fall short of the rules—even minimal ones—or exhibit questionable behavior, they are forced to resign. Why is it so different in Italy?"

This has concentrated people's attention on Berlusconi's private life rather than whether the G-8's dealing with Africa, whether they're going to deal with financial regulations. - James Walston, a professor at the American University of Rome

Berlusconi changed Italy for the worst. Since his first time in charge this country underwent a kind of nasty morbid mutation including and not limited to racism, sexism, contempt for law and rules , growth of new forms of fascism. Also, while it seems that the main concern of berlusconi's executive is protecting the jet-set , first of all our PM from the perils of law, and criminal trials, the public authority is growing more and more oppressive against commoners, undesirable people, workers, political activists. personally i feel in threat way more from public powers than private thugs. because we have always less defenses against our own police and government. our government is starting to give us the shits.
