Burger King Sorry for 'Whopper Goddess'

Share

(Newser) – Hold the sauce—and the beef. Burger King has apologized to Hindus following a firestorm of controversy over the chain's use of the multi-limbed goddess Lakshmi in a Whopper ad, reports the Telegraph. Burger King immediately yanked the ads from outlets in Spain after Hindus complained that it denigrated their religion. Almost all the ingredients in the advertised "Texican Whopper"—from beef to mayonnaise—are forbidden fare for strict Hindus.

The slogan over the ad read in Spanish: "The snack is sacred." Burger King is "apologizing because it wasn't our intent to offend anyone," said a company spokeswoman.

Burger King is so terribly sorry (that they misjudged public response to an intentionally lowbrow campaign. Crap! This is going to cost us PR!) Reply

One, I'm sure they're more offended by the beef than the mayonnaise. Two, mayonnaise is an animal product that anyone who's seen how cruelly industrial farmers treat chickens would be sickened by. Three, as far as the "damages that religions do," I think promoting respect for and giving a damn about the welfare of animals aren't among them.

They should try Nayonaise (sp). its a Mayonaise substitute for people with egg allergies. Also can be used to bake cakes for egg allergic kids. Reply
