As media outlets struggle to find ways to become profitable again, “the Chi-Town Daily News is way ahead of its time,” writes Foster Kamer for Gawker. A recent article ended with a message asking for reader donations to recoup the $726 it cost to run. “Yes, they note that they’re a ‘501(c)(3) public charity,'” he writes. “Non-profits: the new New Media Profit Model!”

“They could also just lease out their offices to shoot movies,” Kamer suggests. “Then again, they probably don’t have any. Cost-cutting efficiency, too!” (More media stories.)
