Canuck Doughnut Standby Supplants Dunkin' in Wary NYC

Share

(Newser) – Many New Yorkers met their first Canadian doughnuts today as the Tim Hortons chain took over 12 locations previously occupied by Dunkin’ Donuts, BlackBook reports. “My frantic runs to Canada to buy tins of Tim Hortons ground coffee are over,” a delighted expatriate said. “Everything in New York is fantastic except the coffee. It’s dreadful. It’s watery.” Some aren’t so happy about the change.

“I had no idea,” a flabbergasted Dunkin’ fan told the Times. “I have no choice, because I hate Starbucks and once I go up to my building I’m not coming back down. They better not do this in Queens.” Of the Hortons joe, one patron allowed, “I’m in. I think it’ll grow on me.” But “Dunkin’ Donuts used to have larger cups,” the miffed fan retorts.

No longer important but there was a time that "Canuck" was the equivalent of "nigger" when directed at French Canadian Americans. Of course, we got over it and now it is a moniker we use proudly among ourselves. Reply

Good coffee, great donuts! I'd gladly trade the local Mickey D's for one (we don't have a Duncan Donuts) Reply

Mmm nothing like timmies. It's interesting, though. I live in the city with the most Tim Horton's per capita in Canada. Literally anywhere you live in the city, you are within walking distance. Reply

Whoever the Dunkin Donuts loyalist is that's downvoting these, try some Tim Horton's and you'll be a convert. That chain could survive on Timbits alone. Reply
