Martinez Lands With Phillies

3-time Cy Young winner agrees to $1M contract

Share

(AP) – Pedro Martinez has agreed to a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, the team’s general manager said today. Terms were not disclosed, but the deal is reportedly worth $1 million for one year. The 37-year-old Martinez went 5-6 with a 5.61 ERA for the New York Mets last season. The free agent pitched in the World Baseball Classic before this season.

The Phils put the three-time Cy Young winner on the 15-day disabled list with a mild shoulder strain. It has not been determined when he will begin a rehab assignment. Martinez is 214-99 with a 2.91 ERA in 17 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Montreal, Boston, and the Mets.

Only way he can survive is to get creative in his pitching like Maddox or Smoltz did...because he has lost a lot of velocity on his fast ball. But for 1 mil dollars not a bad pickup. Will fill some seats just to see him pitch and might even get some quality innings from him. Reply
