Meghan McCain: Joe the Plumber 'Is a Dumbass'

Meghan McCain talks to Out.com about her campaign for gay marriage and her role as pseudo-spokeswoman for a new generation of Republicans, and one line is sure to catch a lot of attention: "Joe the Plumber—you can quote me—is a dumbass," she says of the man who gained fame during her dad's campaign and once said he wouldn't want "queers" near his kids. "He should stick to plumbing.”
McCain views gay rights as "her generation's civil rights movement," but acknowledges that she has a ways to go before winning over gays—they're "skeptical of me as a Republican"—as well as conservatives in her own party. “But there are a lot of people who have said, ‘I’m Republican and I’m pro-gay marriage. Thank you for showing that you don’t have to be anti-gay marriage to be a Republican.'" As for dad: “He’s 73 and of a different generation. I hope someday he will come around.”
