1 Dead After Stage for Madonna Show Collapses

Marseille show canceled after construction calamity

(Newser) – One person was killed and six injured today when a stage being built for a French stop of Madonna’s tour collapsed, the BBC reports. Construction workers were assembling the stage at a Marseille stadium when it “started shaking and collapsing,” allowing most of the workers to get clear, a city councilman said. The concert, planned for Sunday, has been canceled.

What a tragic waste. Why is she still touring at 78 years old? Reply

Getting paid for her workouts; not a bad gig if people still come. However, I think Madonna Corp better demand that stages be constructed to code and an inspector be present; that could have been her troupe that went down with it. Reply

it's quite pointless to demand that a structure be built while an inspector breathes down the workers necks. Plus, more often than not in my experience, there would be nothing the inspector could do, as anyone can take an open book test to become one. If they are really worried, a structural engineer would serve them much better.

I'm no Madonna fan but she's not 78. And do you have a problem with Ted Nugent or Boston or Bob Dylan touring? And since you are the 'overseer' of what constitutes acceptable age limits, what age would that be? Who died and left you boss? Reply
