(Newser) – After a tough week for Georgia sports fans, a team of preteens from Warner Robins gave them something big to cheer about today, capturing the Little League World Series title with an extra-innings triumph over Japan in Williamsport, Pa. Dalton Carriker smacked a walkoff homer in the bottom of the eighth to give the US the 3-2 victory.

Japan took a 2-0 lead early, but the Americans rode five-plus innings of relief work by Kendall Scott, who struck out 10, to a tie after the regulation six innings, setting up Carriker's heroics. The Tokyo Kitasuna players embraced their Warner Robins counterparts after the third consecutive American victory in the late-summer classic's title game.
