(Newser) – A prominent Harvard scholar was arrested last week outside his Cambridge, Mass., home and charged with disorderly conduct after “exhibiting loud and tumultuous behavior,” the Harvard Crimson reports. Henry Louis Gates, a renowned professor of African-American studies, was trying to get into the locked house when a neighbor called the police. The officers who made the arrest said Gates did not respond when they demanded he identify himself.

According to the police report, Gates then called an officer a racist and said, “This is what happens to black men in America,” the AP adds.

This is ridiculous.....when you are describing someones physical features color is relevant and just blc you describe it does NOT make you a racist. If I see people regardless of color, trying to get into a house and they look suspect i would call the cops. Why is it always a race issue. Is the lesson here you can only call if the person is white blc if they are off a different race you are a racist. Maybe people should never report crime unless the person committing it is white...be careful blc if they are ethnic or black and you report it, even if your reason is valid, you are a racist. What a joke
