Wells Gets It Done for Dodgers

Posted Aug 27, 07 9:47 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – David Wells secured the Dodgers a much-needed win last night in New York, giving up two runs in five innings and scoring a run in his first start for the team, a 6-2 victory over the Mets. The 250-pound 44-year-old beat out a bunt in the fifth inning to spark a rally, and struck out two.

The Dodgers snapped Wells up on August 23, three weeks after the Padres released him. Last night his baserunning picked up his new teammates. Said Rafael Furcal: "You say, 'Well, if he can get on base then I want to get on base, too.'" LA is now within 3½ games of San Diego in the NL wild-card race.
