Eclipse Dazzles Asia

(AP) – The longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century is providing a sensation in parts of India, China, and throughout Asia. In some areas, the eclipse has lasted 6 minutes and 39 seconds. To see photos—it's just a partial eclipse in many regions—click on Slideshow, at left.

I witnessed a near total eclipse as a child in New Mexico. I knew what was happening, I had built my pin-hole camera to watch it, even schooled my younger siblings on what to expect. And yet, when totality occurred, the birds stopped tweeting and the air became still and my heart did pound in my chest. Knowing the science behind the event didn't quell ancient feelings to surface. I can see where man has always seen eclipses as spooky/magical
