Fido Blankets Fur-Ever

(Newser) – Pet lovers can always keep their hounds close with blankets spun from Fido's shed fur, a quirky new product developed by a North Carolina entrepreneur, reports the Los Angeles Times. One golden retriever owner stashed her pet's sheddings for 11 years and now has a nice afghan to show for it, even though her dog passed on to the giant fire hydrant in the sky.

The afghan was delivered by businesswoman N'aan Harper, who established a Critter Knitter Guild to spin dog, cat and bunny fur to satisfy requests on her Pet Yarn Chic web site. What's it like to cuddle up with a dog fur blanket? "It is a very soft hair, so it develops a halo around it like Angora does, almost an aura," said one of the knitters. "It's a lovely, luscious fiber." But buyer beware. It sheds.

The headline scared me a bit. I was a little afraid somebody was actually skinning dead Fido and making a blanket out of him. Which, while horrifying, wouldn't have been all that surprising.
