Texas Mom Admits Decapitating Newborn Son

(Newser) – A San Antonio woman has claimed responsibility for the grisly killing of her baby boy, saying she heard voices telling her to do it, the San Antonio Express-News reports. Police say the infant was stabbed, decapitated, and skinned early yesterday. Otty Sanchez, 33, says the devil told her to kill the baby, Scott Wesley Buchholtz Sanchez, who was born June 30.

Sanchez’s mother called police at 4:30am, saying she’d found her daughter sitting on the couch, holding the headless body and crying, “I killed my baby. I want to die.” The baby was missing other limbs as well, which Sanchez claims she ate. Neighbors were shocked. “She was never aggressive; always sweet,” said one. “She did seem to be living in a world of her own, but she must have been deranged.”

So many types on mental illness can describe the brief symptoms being reported, a person with bipolar type II rapid cycling with schizoaffective disorder may experience aural and auditory hallucinations, a false perception occurring without any identifiable external stimulus and indicates an abnormality in perception. The false perceptions can occur in any of the five sensory modalities. ...... The loose description being given could account for any of the following psychotic disorders (including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, shared psychotic disorder, brief psychotic disorder, substance-induced psychotic disorder), bipolar disorder, major depression with psychotic features, delirium, or dementia. We are seeing more and more of this each passing year and it will get much worse in time to come. Public Mental Health clinics were cut in many states long ago and these people are much to sich to work and have insurance, also when they become sick enough they loose themselves and if they do not have a close family as many dont then the warning signs are never seen in time.........One other thing, I have a feeling the Medical community is antisipating a LARGE increase in schizophrenia for one reason, they have begun sending out notices nation wide on symptoms to colleges as well as medical workers not in the Mental Health field also recently 20 new clinics have opened across the nation to pre-screen patients who show early symptoms of schizophrenia which the early symptoms also could be misidentified as Depression....WARNING.....Some things that can push a YOUNG PERSON to the point of a schizophreniform disorder or schizophrenia would be high stress combined with being isolated (for example a kid coming hoime from school and locking themselves away until a working parent is able to come home but leaving the child or young person alone way to much and this young person living in a fearful condition of perhaps a stranger harming them? That would induce the stress)...Anyway, they are setting up the new clinics, to bad it is to late to help this mother and child

In the source article, the grandmother suspects that at one point or another she was using drugs, so I wouldn't put it past her. This kind of news always manages to freeze my insides...
