Awash-in-Red USPS 'High-Risk': Fed Watchdog

Share

(Newser) – The Government Accountability Office has put the struggling US Postal Service on its list of “high-risk” federal programs, the Hill reports. The federal watchdog says the USPS will lose $7 billion this year, and that even the end of the recession will not return business that has migrated to other services and email. The GAO deems the situation urgent, and recommends Congress get cracking on a major overhaul.

It is my hope that the attention GAO's designation is likely to attract to the Postal Service will encourage postal management and the Congress to make the necessary changes.

Way down below you will see the USPS was basically privatized in 1982, it actually made a nice profit until that time when ran by Uncle Sam. One thing contributing greatly to the loss is it now pays Northrop Grumman over $874 Million per year for Bio Detection Equipment just to check for Anthrax from the Bush Era....there is a ton more such crap as well

Honestly? There are only 2 bills that I cannot pay on line. One of them I can walk 3 blocks to drop off at the water/sewer office. The other one is a national company who never seems to get their mail on time, even when mailed out 3 weeks early....oddly enough the get it JUST after the 'late fee' goes into effect. With so many ppl using smart phones and computers to pay bills, why not make mail delivery 3 days a week? Save gas, wages and get back into the black
